In sailing Koen has been coaching several sailors. He coaches young sailing talents that make the step towards the top sport. Also in the management programmes at Team Heiner, Koen encourages teams to submit a top sport mentality. He believes that often top-level sport can be practiced in the business world. Koen focuses on themes such as work from passion, making choices, commitment to the plan and believe in each other.

As a competitive sailor Koen has a lot of experience in both national and international races. He is an all-round sailor in both open boats as on racing yachts. In the Netherlands, he is known by his KLM – Flying Dutchman campaign, in which he conquered several podium positions in the French Mini-Transat circuit. The climax of this campaign was taking part in the Transat 6.50, a prestigious solo sailing race from France to Brazil.
